Much coverage has been given to the recent protests spawning from the decision of California Universities to raise tuition rates. Yesterday several students were arrested during protest activities, but according to several students, this recent up rise does not represent the views of majority of students.
TUITION HIKE PROPONENTS SOUND OFF
Terry Herschel, a University of California, Davis grad student summed it up best, “I fully support the 32% raise in tuition cost. Why should hard working Californians foot the bill for young peoples beer binges and promiscuity. It’s time we bear the full costs our education. If students feel college is too expensive and is not worth the cost, they can vote by dropping out. It’s basic free market principles.”
Sarah Cambert took it a step farther. “There is no right to higher education handouts. Higher tuition will keep less serious students out of our classes, promote the pursute of real degrees as opposed to fluffy liberal arts degrees, and higher debt loads will encourage students to take finding a well-paying job seriously.”
