This week, Isabella “Bella” Swan and Edward Cullen return in Twilight’s sequel New Moon but one new character, Jacob Black, isn’t nearly as interesting as the original director’s script intended. That’s right, the dreamy buff werewolf was first written in as a decaying zombie.
“At first glance, zombies just seem more interesting,” remarked director Chris Weitz, “the entire need for feeding on human flesh sets up a much more exciting dynamic.” But at the urging of New Moon’s author Stephanie Meyer, the werewolf character was restored. “She felt sex appeal of a zombie had limited reach and strongly violated the integrity of her work, so in the end we folded and went with the hairless werewolf. It’s really all about the fans.”
