How? Owners Sarah and Patrick Mitchell, inspired by L.A. Times story about Princess, the Monday Night Football predicting camel from New Jersey’s Popcorn Park Zoo started observing Lacy to see if they could find any ‘tells’ before big games.
“We started with the Major League Baseball playoffs,” claims Patrick, a professional statistician and baseball enthusiast.
“We wrote down all of Lacy’s behaviors and compared them to a predetermined game outcome. By the end of divisional playoffs, the system was clear: if she pooped on her first time outside on game day, the home team wins. Simple, right?”
Simple indeed. Patrick claims Lacy has been correct 83% of the time so far this playoff season.
Life-long Phillie fans, the couple anxiously stood watch as they let Lacy out for her first morning relief. “You can imagine our disappointment when she dropped a duce first thing, but these are the things that are out of our control.”
